We are very excited to announce the Create West Virginia Conference, November 12-14, 2007, at the Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV. We hope you will spread the word about this first conference and help us make it a memorable leadership and training experience. Registrations are now being taken at http://www.createwvconference.com .
First, a few words about the purpose of the conference. The Creative Communities team of A Vision Shared, after spending over a year studying New Economy, Creative Class, and West Virginia cultural issues, believe firmly that real change happens at the local community level. With that in mind, the Create WV Conference is optimized for one primary purpose: to equip local leaders in developing their own New Economy growth plans. This includes how to attract and develop the talented individuals required to create new economy businesses and improve communities.
Who should attend? Here is a brief list of folks who typically make up a local "team" and who will benefit from this conference:
- Local Government - Mayors, city council members, county commissioners, city/county managers, etc.
- Economic Development and Business Community Leaders - EDA directors, chamber of commerce staff, real estate developers, angel and venture capital investors, entrepreneurs
- Arts and Cultural Leaders - Museum directors, arts council directors, community and social group leaders, artists
- Educational Leaders - K12 superintendents, arts and business teachers; college and university presidents, provosts and deans, faculty members, community outreach leaders
- Interested citizens with an interest in developing a new future for their community
The conference will deliver very practical best practice insights from cities, counties and states who have made it happen. We will highlight and learn from communities that are very similar to ours in terms of size, obstacles and opportunities.
Below is a brief summary of the tracks and sample topics offered. Please note specifics are still being developed:
- Technology - How to improve broadband coverage, how to increase PC usage in your community, how to develop e-government services that improve access and incent more people to get online
- Talent - How to improve the percentage of adults with college degrees, how to partner with colleges and universities, how to improve K12 schools for developing graduates with 21st century skills, how schools can partner with arts, business and community organizations to broaden educational opportunities
- Tolerance - How to build inclusive, diverse communities that provide more opportunities for everyone
- "Third Places" - How to improve the cultural, recreational and social amenities to attract or retain talented citizens required for healthy, dynamic communities
- Strategies, Tactics and Resources - How to develop a successful strategic plan, how to turn plans into action, how to connect plans with resources to make them "real"
The conference fee is $295, inclusive of all materials, sessions and meals. A special "stay over" fee of $495, inclusive of the conference and two-night resort stay, has been arranged for anyone who would like to stay at the beautiful Stonewall Resort for Monday and Tuesday night.
Space is limited, so please register today at http://www.createwvconference.com/!
